A story written by my sister, our friend, and I.

Version: 11/8/12)
Once upon a time, in the scrumptious
kingdom of the food pyramid, there lived a knight. The Vegetable Knight, as he
was known, had a passion for helping people learn the ways of the King
Watermelon and Queen Onion the tearful, who ruled with gentle wisdom. And he
spent time guiding children toward healthier lives and futures. Yet, though his
intentions were of the noblest form, deceit was brewing.
The clans of the Pretzel and Graham
Cracker Gnomes were in cahoots: seeing that the message of the Vegetable Knight
turned the children from them they grew jealous in their hearts and wished to
annihilate the ‘evil’ Knight.
And so, they worked their lies into the
children’s minds, promising them delectable sweets and tempting goodies. The
innocent minds of the children were swiftly turned against their beloved
Vegetable Knight, instead of eating broccoli and cucumbers while he tutored
them, they decided to spend their days with the Pretzel and Graham Cracker
Gnomes who supplied them with endless supplies of addicting junk food.
As the Gnomes power grew, they developed a
plot to give all the people within the food pyramid kingdom cavities and sugar
comas. But the Vegetable Knight heard of their dastardly plans, as he searched
for a reason the children had deserted him, and he challenged them to an epic
duel to end all duels. One which would decide who would remain and who would be
cast out from the food pyramid kingdom forever!
At long last, the day of the duel came.
The Graham Cracker Gnomes were battle-ready; sitting astride their animal
cracker steeds, with s’more shields and throwing stars. The Pretzel Gnomes were
not long in coming; pretzel nun-chucks at the ready for destruction. One could
almost feel the evil in the air as they assembled.
The Vegetable Knight was the last to enter
the arena upon his mighty steed Celery, with asparagus lance at the ready, he
charged his opponents.
Throwing stars were flung, nun-chucks
swung, olive bombs flew hither and yon; the battle seemed to be in the Gnomes
favor. The Vegetable felt despair creeping in: it seemed as though the warriors
would never stop coming at him! And then he heard it: the musical voice of his
true love.
Red hair billowing behind her, those
lovely green eyes sparkling with worry for her Knight; Princess Watermelondria
summoned forth words past her tears, “I believe in you.” Her call danced past
her lips straight to his previously discouraged ears. It would now be decided;
could he win?
The forces of evil waned as he gathered
his final olive bombs and cauliflower launcher. Perseverance, and the love
reflected in Watermelondria’s green eyes, urged him forward with a new
strength; the Gnomes knew defeat that day.
After
the battle, King Watermelon forced the Gnomes to return to Candyland from
whence they had come and never return. He also held a ceremony for the
victorious Vegetable Knight.
As a
reward for saving the kingdom, he was given the hand of Princess Watermelondria
in marriage. And so they lived in Peace, the Vegetable Knight and Princess
Watermelondria worked together to further the kingdom and teach the children to
live their lives by the King’s code and to safeguard their young minds from
treacherous villains.
The
End.
